Preventative Measures for Osteoporosis

What is Osteoporosis?

OsteoporosisIt's no secret that as we age our bones become more brittle, break more easily, and heal a lot slower. Ahh, the joys of growing old. Luckily as we get older, we also get wiser and find ways to prevent, or slow down, our bodies from atrophying so quickly.

Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disease that's characterized by a decrease in bone mass and density and that leads to an increased risk of fracture. It is most common in women after menopause and especially dangerous and common in men and women after the age of 70. The bone fractures are the most dangerous aspect of osteoporosis since it can take a long time for the bone to heal and can be extremely painful and debilitating.

Preventative Measures

The most obvious preventative measure to take to prevent osteoporosis is to maintain a
healthy diet filled with vitamins and nutrients. Vitamin D and protein are important to
keeping your bones strong and sturdy. Exercise is extremely important as well as
osteoporosis affects the backbone due to under usage and poor posture. These are obvious preventive measures that most are aware of, but some fail to do on a daily basis.

Supplements to Promote Health

So what are some other preventive measures, like supplements, that can be taken to help
us prevent osteoporosis? Well, let's take a look at some natural supplements that have been known to help strengthen bones.

Calcium Supplements – Postmenopausal women are at risk of low calcium levels. Taking Calcium loaded supplement such as Caltrate or BioCalth can prevent that loss of much needed bone mass. Do not overdo it though as our bodies can't really handle more than 600 MG of calcium a day.

Vitamin D – This is a very easy vitamin to get. We get it naturally from the sun. However, many of us don't get enough sun throughout the entire year.   Vitamin D helps our bodies absorb Calcium. It is also very easy to get in supplement form.

This is a great product with a healthy amount of D3 and also K2.

Vitamin K2 (MK7) with D3 Supplement - Vitamin D & K Complex for Strong Bones and a Healthy Heart - 5000 IU of Vitamin D3 & 90 mcg of Vitamin K2 MK-7 - 60 Small & Easy to Swallow Vegetable Capsules

Cissus Quadrangularis – This may be a more “little known” secret herb that is gaining
popularity. Cissus is a plant that has been known to heal bone fractures and promote
strong bone growth. It is completely safe and natural. Cissus helps our body transform calcium into a usable form for our bones.  Don't let all that calcium you are taking go to waste! Find Cissus in extract form and take it on a regular basis.
